Tabby's Tiny Tabbies
Help us give orphan kittens a second chance at life
Specializing in neonatal kitten fostering
At Tabby's Tiny Tabbies, we specialize in rescuing and caring for orphan kittens that require round-the-clock bottlefeeding care. Our kittens are raised in a loving home environment and receive socialization with people and other cats. Over the last 20+ years, we have fostered dozens of litters in conjunction with multiple rescue organizations in the Greater Houston Area.
Neonatal orphan kittens, particularly those under four weeks of age, face numerous challenges that contribute to a higher mortality rate compared to kittens raised by their mothers. The average mortality rate for neonatal orphan kittens can vary but is often reported to be quite high. According to statistics online, the average is thought to be higher than 40%. The veterinarian at our local Emergency Vet clinic on Calder Road told me that in reality, it's more like 60%.
This high rate is due to several factors such as the lack of maternal care, vulnerability to illness, difficulty in maintaining body temperature, and challenges in feeding. For comparison, I have fostered 70 kittens and have only lost 7 in more than 20 years, which equates to a mortality rate of approximately 10%. This is significantly lower than the average, reflecting the dedication, care, and expertise I bring to neonatal kitten fostering. My success rate highlights the impact of specialized care and attention in improving the survival chances of these vulnerable animals. Being skilled in this area is why I continue to foster, because I want to give these vulnerable creatures their best shot at survival and help them to thrive.
